Awavena

After drinking a mysterious potion, the shaman falls into a state of deep vision. He sees and feels the sap of trees and their vibrant life; he passes through flooded forests, which are the reflection of the sick man's mind. Nature and body are connected here in one entity. The leader of the Yawanawa tribe decides to break the taboo for the first time and allows the first woman to enter into this sacred state. This virtual reality project, reminiscent in its fantastic stylisation of James Cameron's Avatar, was created in close collaboration with members of the Amazon tribe. The resulting film presents both a faithful record of the unique ritual and a universal story of female emancipation. (One World)
