Based on the true story of the man widely believed to be the first Cuban refugee to arrive on U.S. shores on a homemade raft, The Rafter tells the incredible story of Reinaldo Cruz. Only 16 years old when he starts witnessing the violence and social unrest following the start of Fidel Castro’s government, Reinaldo makes the decision to leave his country, even if it means leaving his beloved sister and mother behind.
