Dragon quest: Your story (2019)

English The animation is very good at the level of Disney and Pixar, but the story didn't really interest me and the humor is absent, which is the most disappointing. However, the different monsters are great and the finale is nicely action-packed and grand at the same time. The final plot twist is also interesting and well-thought-out. Better than the third one. Clarita (2019)

English A praised horror film from the Philippines about exorcism set in a prison. Personally, exorcism is probably the most boring and least interesting theme in horror, it’s impossible to come up with anything interesting. A priest in a black cassock holds a cross and sprinkles holy water everywhere, we've seen that hundreds of times. Fortunately, Clarita is at least a little bit interesting thanks to the prison setting, which is not completely typical for the genre. I liked the decent make-up effects, there are some quite brutal scenes (a finger being bitten off or a nice twisting of a woman's joints in the shower, that reminded me of the legendary scene from Suspiria). It’s nicely shot and the acting is not bad either. The atmosphere is decent in some places, but the scenes outside of the prison didn't really interest me and lost some pace, but as the first new release of this year, it's decent. Fans of exorcism could be even more satisfied. Story***, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment***, Music***, Visuals***, Atmosphere****, Tension***. 6/10.

The Truth Beneath (2016)

English I have to join the side of those who were also did not enjoy this film at all. It’s a tedious and incredibly slow drama, pretending to be a thriller thanks to the final twist, which had no impact on me because I wished it to end already. Son Ye-jin is probably the only positive aspect, she acts really well and the visuals are traditionally okay, but otherwise it was completely off for me. Story***, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence*, Entertainment**, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere**, Tension**. 4/10.

Vikings - Season 6 (2019) (season)

English The 6th season was more interesting than the 5th thanks to the discovery of the Rus, but that's about it. The series is just treading water now. You have to wait nine episodes for one battle, all the interesting characters are gone and only the annoying ones remain. The biggest paradox to me is that the least interesting character from the entire series is the only one who has survived. I wasn't bored, but I was watching more out of principle. Visually, it doesn't compare at all to the first season. 6/10.

Sequence (2013)

English This is awesome! A guy wakes up one day with everyone being afraid of him because he the whole world has had a nasty dream about. His life is falling apart before his eyes and he experiences an unimaginable nightmare. The finale? It is unexpectedly brutal and literally delicious. 9/10.

English An audiovisual Sci-Fi CGI banger in the style of Predator, about fighting lizards on a beautiful planet. Four loaded minutes! 8/10.

Blizzard of Souls (2019)

English Very nicely shot by Latvian standards, and the First World War setting is definitely welcome. However, the film suffers from it and turns out to be a bit boring. The characters didn't interest me much, it is necessary to clarify that the film is primarily a war drama, with very little action, and even there is some action, it is mostly uninteresting. It lacks brutality, intensity, and tension. The soldiers stand in place, shoot, reload, the end. I understand that the weapons in the First World War were different from those in the Second, but it could definitely have done more interestingly. Additionally, the Latvian army was very small, so it appears modest in every aspect. For me, it is not gritty and rough enough, it is too polished, and the civilian scenes are tedious. The protagonist goes through three partners, and I don't need to see that in a war movie. Those who prefer romance, emotions, and a drawn-out story over war carnage will be satisfied. Story***, Action**, Humor**, Violence*, Entertainment***, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere****, Tension**. 5/10.

The Outpost (2019)

English A perfectly modern war film about defending a US base in the Hindukush mountains against the uncompromising Taliban. Honestly, it is much better than I expected, and if it wasn't for Black Hawk Down and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, I would have given it a full score. Without a doubt, The Outpost is better than the recent Mosul from Netflix. Orlando Bloom and the likable Scott Eastwood are the stars, and in the first hour there is a very good introduction to the 60 soldiers who reside in the base. The character development is good, the military lines are accurate, and the calm before the storm is atmospherically appropriate, and probably no one expected a 40-minute war hell to break loose after an hour, which is intense, thrilling, and visually captivating. It's a bit disappointing that the gore was toned down, but it is still a well-directed, brilliantly acted, and suspenseful war film that I really enjoyed. Story***, Action****, Humor****, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere****, Tension****. 8/10.

The Maker (2011)

English Sad and original. The process of making quite creepy characters. Definitely solid. 8/10.

Cargo (2013)

English An overall original idea, but that’s pretty much it. There’s no action, average visuals, nothing really interesting happens. 6/10.
