Biography

Maite Alberdi is a Chilean director and producer. She is the first Chilean woman nominated for an Academy Award. She has developed a particular style that achieves an intimate portrayal of the characters she works with, through everyday stories in small-scale worlds. Her unique perspective led her to be one of the most important voices in Latin American documentary. In 2011 she released her first feature film, The Lifeguard. Through Micromundo, her production company, she directed her second film, TeaTime, which has won more than twelve international awards and was nominated for the 2016 Goya for Best Ibero-American Film. In 2016 she premiered the short film No soy de aquĆ­ nominated for the European Film Award and also premiered her third feature film Los mayores which won ten international awards. At Sundance 2020 she premiered The Mole Agent, the first Chilean documentary nominated to the Academy Awards.
