Biography

She made an auspicious feature film debut in Slumdog Millionaire, after being selected by director Danny Boyle to play the leading role of Latika, the star-crossed childhood love of an impoverished quiz show contestant in Mumbai. Garnering widespread acclaim, she won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The film’s remarkable success story led to Pinto becoming an overnight star in the U.S., with appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the The Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others.

She was recently seen in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, joining an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Naomi Watts.

Pinto was born in Mumbai and studied English Literature, Psychology and Economics at St. Xavier’s College there before embarking on her acting career.
