Biography

Jorge Pérez Solano (b. 1973, Oaxaca, Mexico) studied communication sciences, screenwriting and film direction. He was involved in many Mexican films as assistant director and also made documentaries and culture programmes for major TV channels. He began his filmography with the documentary The Lord of the Toadstool (El señor del Honguito, 1992), after which followed the short films Tattoos (Tatuaje), Wakeful Sleep (Duermevela, 1992) and Playback (1994). The last work mentioned was part of the series "To Meet or Not Meet" ("Encuentros y Desencuentros"). Solano's first feature film Spiral (Espiral, 2009) won the Diosa de Plata Award for Best Cinematography and Best Editing, among numerous other honors. The film examines a theme subsequently developed in Solano's next film La tirisia.
