Biography

Hilde Heier was initially educated as a nursery school teacher, but later studied studied advanced Directing at New York University and The National Center for Screen Studies.

After writing and directing several short films, and also some acting roles, she made her feature film debut with the romantic comedy drama The Prompter in 1999, for which she also wrote the screenplay. The film was a hit with both critics and the audience, and garnered Heier The Norwegian Film Critics Award. She followed her debut with another film she'd written herself, the children's horror film The Beast of Beauty (2003), before she returned to dramatic comedy with Second Half in 2007 - the first of her feature films not written by herself.

Heier also teaches directing at several institutions in Norway, such as the Norwegian National Center for Screen Studies and the University of Bergen.
