Biography

Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, for more than five decades he has completed projects distinguished by the diversity of film genres and by their universal and disturbing themes in films such as The Passion According to Berenice, Shipwreck, Appearances Deceive, Doña Herlinda and Her Son, Homework, and Youth. His filmography stands out for express itself with minimal resources and for achieving exemplary results in this digital stage, where he excels in eXXXorcismos, El malogrado amor de Sebastián, El Edén, Rencor and InFielicidad. There have been tributes and cycles of his work around the world; As well as retrospectives of his film work at the MoMA in New York, The National Film Theater in London, The Cinémathèque Québécoise in Montreal, and at the Cineteca Nacional de México. He has been awarded six Ariel awards the categories for Best Direction and Best Screenplay; And among other important international awards, is the Jury award of the Moscow International Film Festival for La tarea.
