Biography

Micah Magee is a director and screenwriter. She graduated from the department of radio-television-film at the University of Texas. Her German-filmed short documentary Krankenhaus (2004), recording her own medically assisted posttraumatic state following a wild bout of marijuana huffing, won the main prize in its category at the Oberhausen short film festival in 2004. In France she created the seven-minute documentary My Last Day in Nigeria (2008) about a boy who is determined to leave his homeland. Three short acted films followed, including Heimkommen (2012), in which a young female protagonist figures prominently for the first time. The writer-director film Petting Zoo, her feature debut, makes use of the director's own experiences growing up in southern Texas. The film was presented at the Berlinale and SXSW.
