Biography

Vincent Monnikendam (b. 1936, The Hague) was originally a journalist but is now best known around the world as a documentarist. Before going independent in 1995, he worked for the Dutch TV station NOS. His films, which always undergo a long and intensive preparation phase, generally treat social themes, such as immigration or racial tension. His documentary Mother Dao the Turtlelike (1995) was screened at 52 film fests and took 17 awards.
