Biography
Laila Mikkelsen made her feature film debut with something as rare as a Norwegian socially realistic science-fiction drama Us premiered in September 1976, and along with her second film, Growing Up (1981), firmly established Mikkelsen as one of the most significant female directors in Norwegian cinema during the late seventies and early eighties, in the company of peers such as Anja Breien and Vibeke Løkkeberg. She has since directed several other short and feature films, and is also an experienced screenwriter and producer, with several titles to her name in those capacities as well.
