His thesis, the medium-length film Adiós, adiós ídolo mío (1981), served as the basis for The Legend of the Mask (1989), his professional debut. He collaborated in Conozco a las tres (1983), an independent featurette directed by his wife Marisa Sistach, with whom he adapted and edited Los pasos de Ana (1988). He also adapted Anoche soñé contigo (1991), and together with Sistach, co-directed La linea paterna (1995), which was selected for the Venice film festival, and won awards at the Trieste, Bogotá, Gramado and Uruguay film festivals. In 1997, he made the documentary La balada de John O’Reilly for the UNAM, and one year later he co-directed El cometa with Sistach. In 1999, he produced, adapted and edited Sistach’s Nadie te oye: perfume de violetas.
