Biography

One of the most famous Brazilian filmmakers. Early in the 60s, he co-founded the Cinema Novo Movement, among others. In the 1970s, he started a time of great popularity for the Brazilian cinema with his film Xica da Silva. In the 80s, he filmed Bye Bye Brasil, his most famous Brazilian film. He opposed to the military dictatorship in his country. During that period, he had to leave for exile.
