Biography

Hans Otto Nicolayssen started to work in the film industry and made his first short film The Franciscan Monastery in 1966. Since then he has made four feature films, numerous short and documentary films and also several television dramas. He has worked as editor on several feature films and documentaries. In 1989, he received the national film award Amanda as editor of the feature length documentary For harde livet and has also been working with international co-productions, among them Nicolas Roeg's The Witches (1990).

Nicolayssen was the artistic director of the national production fund Filmgruppe 1 (1983-84) and later the independent production group Filmgruppe 84. In 1994, he was appointed CEO and artistic director of the new regional film center Western Norway Film Center. From 2003 - 2012, he worked as a senior advisor for Film Commission Norway.
