Eduardo Mendicutti was born in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), but he lives in Madrid since 1972. In 1973 his work Tatuaje was awarded with the Sésamo prize for the best novella. Nevertheless, it was censored and forbidden and still remains unpublished. In 1974, he received the prize Café Gijón, in the same category, with his novella Cenizas. Among other prizes he received during the first stage of his literary career, it is necessary to highlight the Ciudad de Barbastro, Fundación Colegio del Rey, and Cáceres, for novella, and Nueva Estafeta and Ciudad de Irún for short stories. In 1991, his work El palomo cojo was a finalist in the Spanish National Prize for Narrative Literature Premio Nacional de Narrativa, and, in 2002, he received the Andalucía de la Crítica award with El angel descuidado. In 1993, Mendicutti published his novella Duelo en Marilyn City (una del oeste), and La Susi en el vestuario blanco, a series of “journalism-fiction” articles that were published in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo during the summer. In recognition of his literary work and his commitment to the LGBT community, he received the Nino Gennaro award in the Sicilia Queer Film Festival celebrated in Palermo (Italy), in 2012. Two of his works have been adapted into films: El palomo cojo, which was directed by Jaime de Armiñán, and Los novios búlgaros, directed by Eloy de la Iglesia. In October, 2013, he published his novel Otra vida para vivirla contigo. Much of his work has been translated into French, English, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Bulgarian, Turkish, Greek and Polish. Mendicutti is, as well, a regular contributor in written press, radio and television.
