Claudia Piñeiro

Biography

Writer, playwright, and scriptwriter. In 2005, she won the Clarín-Alfaguara Award with Las viudas de los Jueves. Elena sabe (2007) won the Liberature Prize of Germany, and its English version was a finalist at the International Booker Prize in 2022. Las grietas de Jara (2009) won the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Award. Catedrales (2020) got the Dashiell Hammett Award during the Semana Negra of Gijon. Her other works include: Tuya, Betibú, Un comunista en calzoncillos, Una suerte pequeña, Las Maldiciones y El tiempo de las moscas, all of them from Alfaguara publishing. Quién no (2018), Obra teatral (2021), Escribir un silencio (2023). Las viudas de los jueves, was made into a film by Marcelo Piñeyro and a serial version was released on Netflix in 2023. Other works that were made into film: Betibú, Tuya, Las grietas de Jara and Elena sabe. Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages. Other awards include: Rosalía de Castro by the Galicia Pen Club in 2014; Pepe Carvalho Award by Barcelona Negra in 2019; and the Blue Metropolis award from Canada in 2019. Her play Un mismo árbol verde won the Ace Award in 2007.
