It's 1947 Hollywood, and Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a down-on-his-luck detective, is hired to find proof that Marvin Acme, gag factory mogul and owner of Toontown, is playing hanky-panky with femme fatale Jessica Rabbit, wife of Maroon Cartoon superstar Roger Rabbit. When Acme is found murdered, all fingers point to Roger, and the sinister, power-hungry Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) is on a mission to bring Roger to justice. Roger begs the Toon-hating Valiant to find the real evildoer and the plot thickens as Eddie uncovers scandal after scandal and realizes the very existence of Toontown is at stake! English Flawless combination of cartoon and real-life actors on such a high technical level that it can teach a lesson to many of its younger siblings. As proof, it should be enough that, unlike the usual movies based on effect, Roger hasn’t aged a bit in technical terms, even twenty years on. Add to that the nicely “noir" detective story, likeable protagonists and the marvelously concocted world with its own rules that really work. The opening scene and how it plays out wring out the potential of this idea to the maximum. And the never-ending stream of cameos is just wonderful. And the main thing is that this is just great fun! English Imaginative, brilliant, timeless, and inimitable! The marriage of animation and live action has never been as nicely done as it is here. The transition at the beginning was especially amazing... so unexpected. Overall, a very nice plot. ()

English Let's not kid ourselves, the distribution didn't bother with slogans like "first time on the big screen" or "original blend of animation and live-action film," while here in the Czech Republic, we know that practically all the ideas and techniques that Zemeckis came up with had already appeared in Czech cinematography, in some cases even decades before Roger Rabbit. On the other hand, none of these films featured Bob Hoskins in the lead role, they didn't have such audience-friendly and gag-filled scripts, and it wasn't all wrapped up in that pleasant Hollywood pop culture packaging. Falešná hra is a pleasant comedy film, but from my point of view, it doesn't have such a strong script to blow me away. Maybe it's because I'm not drawn to the films it draws from and partly parodies. Overall impression: 65%. ()

English A great premise with an even better execution. I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal nowadays, but back then such a high quality combination of live-action and animated film must have caused a lot of hype, and not just among small kids. Roger Rabbit and the other cartoon characters, too, are more than fine, but not as fine as Zemeckis's enjoyable direction, which gives room for a great variety of characters and tons of jokes, or Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd in particular, who as the ruthless judge is simply not to be missed. Almost 25 years have passed, but this magical film remains unbeaten in its genre, and just for that, it clearly deserves a full rating. ()

English The blending of animation with live action is absolutely incredibly well done for 1988, the opening shot is insane, the allusion to 1950s noir is thorough, and the little details like references to ethnic segregation at the time through the intertwined world of cartoon and real characters in this type of film are pleasantly surprising. In fact, the whole vision is handled perfectly. But then it's all for naught when the arrival of the titular rabbit on the scene gives you a really bad headache. ()

English I loved this movie so much as a child, and I have realized that even after years, I absolutely adore it. Now, it's not just because of the characters, although they are fantastic, but mainly because of how Zemeckis, like no one before or after him, managed to skillfully merge live-action and animation - technically flawless - but also gave it a story that is fun, thrilling, and brilliantly surreal.
