From stag beetle to swastika narrates in a richly detailed, associative montage the boundless possibilities of manipulating images and using images to seduce. The Historionaut, a history machine, produces an incessant stream of remembered, contemporary and future images. It helps in establishing connections, for instance between the strangely German Kulturfilm and the film avantgarde of La Sarraz, between stag beetles and grandfathers, between Dark Wave and Cyberbugs. It deals with fascistic pseudoDarwinism and artificial corruptibility, with the makers of Kulturfilm who for their part put their avantgarde narrative, filmic and editing techniques to the service of fascism. Welcome to the land of the beetle and the avatar. Familiar coordinates of narrative convention have no validity here. (DOK.fest München)
