Plots(1)

After Barabbas has been released from prison he becomes a witness to the events on Golgotha. He goes to visit his circle of friends in a whorehouse, but cannot forget what he has seen. A harelipped woman, with whom he has previously lived, witnesses to him about Christ. Barabbas goes to see the disciples and meets the resurrected Lazarus, but is spurned. Accused of spreading heresy the harelipped woman is stoned, and Barabbas witnesses her death. He takes vengeance by killing the prosecutor. For a while, a band of robbers give him refuge, but he is taken prisoner and sent as a slave to the copper mines on Cypress. There he meets Sahak, a Christian slave. They pray together, but are betrayed and taken up before a tribunal. Barabbas now denies his Christian faith. Sahak is crucified. Barabbas is set free and in Rome he seeks contact with the Christians. He watches the city burn and believes that the Master has returned to destroy the world, and he himself picks up a torch. In prison he meets the Christians, who refuse to recognize him. He dies on the cross. (official distributor synopsis)
