English Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut is a strange show that does not really work for me regarding any of the things it is trying to be. If it were supposed to be a love story, it was a very slow, lackluster one that I found rather boring overall. If they were trying to introduce me to the rigors of astronaut training, then I did not get a very intense impression of that either. Oh, and the whole parallels with the USSR did not really work either. The totalitarian communist regime in this show was incredibly soft. There was a lot of discussion instead of firm action, and the cheerful and idealistic ending put the final nail in the coffin. I found it was extremely unconvincing throughout, so I did not keep my fingers crossed for the leading couple, and I had no concern for them. I do not think it has such a bad ending, even though I guess I was expecting a better execution and a more interesting conclusion to it all because the idea and setup were superficially interesting, at least. However, I do think that Lev and Irina were not completely pointless characters. This way, I just sailed through it all, and somehow nothing stuck with me. My overall impression is that this show is a slightly below-average fairy tale. 4.4/10. ()
