Goldberg Variations

This is a rough, fragmented drama about a couple whose 13-year-old son committed suicide without an apparent reason. The film portrays the day after the funeral and the helpless, abandoned mourning of the parents. The father, a driver, is unable to stay at home, driving aimlessly in the city, visiting the crematorium, the cemetery, his brother and trying to extract something from his sons friend, all in vain. The mother does not leave the apartment. Her friend from America arrives, then the wo-man next door comes in to tell her that the inhabitants of the house hate them, and even a policeman comes to look around in their home. The father returns in the evening. He refuses to read his sons last letter. They cannot have more children and he asks his wife to kill him. The wife cuts his throat. (official distributor synopsis)
