It can seem that some of humanity’s marks on nature are too brutal to heal. The remnants of mining are among the most radical—the inhospitality of the exhausted landscape and abandoned mines looks irreversible. But La Jayona proves that nature endures. At first sight it is a scar left by the human hand. On the second, closer look, it is a diverse little world bubbling with life. Anything could be hiding inside the abandoned mine. A varied community of creatures have built their homes here—from fluffy bats, fluffy spiders, and swift mice, to owls and newts. Surrounded by unique colorful flora, the La Jayona mine is proof that nature is not only powerful but also patient. (Academia Film Olomouc)
