17-year-old Maren loves life and men. But in conservative Copenhagen in 1933, Maren is considered a person of mental weakness and a danger. So Child Welfare puts her in the Women's Institute on the island of Sprogø. There she meets like-minded people, all of whom have been committed for vagrancy or sexual insatiability. She soon forms an inseparable bond with Sørine, who has been housed at the institution for years. Together they begin to rebel against the radical methods – with far-reaching consequences. In her sensitive and stylishly staged drama, director Malou Reymann deals with one of the darkest episodes of Danish contemporary history. (Zurich Film Festival)
