Cabbar is a horse cab driver who has to take care of his elderly mother, his wife and their five children. They live in poverty in a slum and Cabbar is indebted to almost everyone. Cabbar buys lottery tickets consistently, as this is his only hope. One of Cabbar's two horses dies in a car accident. Cabbar moves heaven and earth to buy a new horse, and he also sells some furniture from his house in order to put some money together. Meanwhile, his creditors sell Cabbar's cab and the other horse. A carrier, Hasan, forces Cabbar to look for a treasure and a preacher convinces him to do so. Cabbar begins to look for a buried treasure. His indefatigable hope is gradually replaced by a dance of hopelessness. (Venice International Film Festival)

English Very nicely and subtly told in the clear language of film (16 mm camera), Hope is the story of the head of a poor Turkish family that slides deeper and deeper into extreme poverty. I was very surprised by how much the family problems of the Turks are identical to those of ours. And I don’t mean insolvency, but the relationships between husbands, wives and children, regardless of whether they live in a diamond-encrusted palace or a tar-paper shack. ()
