The members of a rifle-corps unit gather in a village by the western border to pay tribute to the memory of their martyr fellows on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Soviet liberation. They hold a kind of self-examination session and wonder why their 63 brothers-in-arms and the same number of Soviet soldiers had to die. An uninvited guest arrives, captain Sajbán, who is blamed by everyone for the senseless deaths. In the last minutes of the battle they are remembering, Sajbán was ready to surrender to the Soviet troops, but he failed to order a stop to firing. The participants of the ceremony now act out the story of the tragic days. (official distributor synopsis)
