Tom Remlov issued an invitation for Norwegian filmmakers to take part in an ambitious and unique project spanning the four years leading up to the millenium. The place is Oslo, the time is a day in April 1996. Four stories are lived out in the confinement of a flat in the heart of the city. There's the maid being sought out by the lover in The Pyjama Man. But what have the girls really been doing in The Hammerhead Shark? In Can You Hear the Moon the leder sister brings a young black man home, while in Floating a whole symphony orchestra turns up for a party. And through it all runs the story about granddad Olsen, who lives in Spain in Exile. 1996: Breath is a film about encounters on both sides of the camera. Behind the camera five leading Norwegian directors have met with five authors. Together they have created a film about chance meetings and the meeting that never happened. We become who we are through who we meet - through the breath of other lives! (Norsk Filminstitutt)
