Edith Stein was born in an orthodox Jewish family in Breslau, todays Wroclaw. She studied history, psychology and philosophy and later taught at different universities. In 1922 she converted to the Christian fate. Her family distanced itself from her as a consequence, and one of her one-time fellows at university, professor Heller, accused her with having acted out of interest. Following the Fascist overtake of power, she asked to be accepted to the Carmelite order of nuns, whose motto is: the most important purpose of our lives is to reach our own selves, and in order to do this our spirit must go through seven rooms. In the cloister she continues to pursue her studies of philosophy. In 1942 she accepts her fate as a Jew and dies in Auschwitz. (official distributor synopsis)
