Jurassic Cash

France, 2022, 75 min (Alternative: 54 min)

Plots(1)

Everyone who had a dinosaur phase as a child likely wanted their own dinosaur. Some people can fulfill this dream – at least to a degree. The film offers a layered look into the controversial practice of the auction of dinosaur bones. It includes voices of both collectors, thrilled by an exclusive sauropod skeleton in their living room, and scientists, unsettled by the market preventing museums and labs from accessing the finds. A triceratops called Big John becomes the subject of their collective interest. (Academia Film Olomouc)

English The documentary Jurassic Cash was a must-see screening for me as a dinosaur lover at this year's International Festival of Science Documentary Films. The film takes a very engaging look behind the scenes of the increasingly popular dinosaur skeleton and bone auctions, which on the one hand are emptying the wallets of rich enthusiasts, while on the other, they are causing outrage from scientists and museums. Personally, I would rather all fossils found go to museums and be used for research than end up in the fancy homes of filthy rich enthusiasts who see them as nothing but their own pride and desire to have something unique. But money makes the world go round! ()
