On a London train, a wealthy suburbanite (Jean Simmons) meets a middle-class young man (Leonard Whiting) who invites himself into her first-class compartment. Whiting immediately starts an outrageous conversation with Simmons and she is both stunned and intrigued by the young man's audacity. Eventually, though, she orders the daring young man to leave, threatening to pull the emergency cord if he doesn't. Thus begins a romantic game of cat and mouse between two lonely people on the opposite ends of the social ladder. (official distributor synopsis)
