Evanescent NSW

This footage of fog rolling through Australian forests was filmed in New South Wales in 1997. In late 2019 and early 2020, the region will be hit by unprecedented wildfires that experts have linked to global warming. Yann Beauvais allowed the original material to be exposed to tropical climatic conditions for several years and supplemented it with found footage of the fires in 2023. The distinctly tinted images of ferns, trees and vapours, overlaid with scars and other signs of decay, are accompanied by an intense soundtrack. (Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival)
