One A.M.

Charlie reprises his signature role as the inebriate in a virtuoso solo performance. Returning home in full evening dress from a heavy night out, Charlie struggles with the taxi door before finally making it into the house. Indoors at last, all the fixtures and fittings of the house seem to become nightmarish objects which Charlie has to overcome. He slides on the rug, is alarmed by stuffed animals and completely confused by the coat rack which seems to be made of rubber. A table revolves so that he can never get his drink and he is almost defeated by the stairs. A comically large swinging clock pendulum presents him with problems getting into the bedroom, where he has to fight with a folding bed before finally collapsing exhausted into the bathtub.
