English Did you know that I like Winning better than the much-vaunted Le Mans with Steve McQueen? I was even very close to giving it a fifth star, but the film seemed too long towards the end (specifically during the Indianapolis race, unfortunately). Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about. The car scenes are some of the best I've ever seen, and James Goldstone was as good at them as the editor, who gave them a frantic rhythm in places. The acting was also flawless, the story seemed pleasantly ambiguous and I'm wondering whether I should have rooted for Newman's character or not. Four and a half. ()
