English The weakest Curtis script I've encountered so far, but still a guarantee of decent and smart entertainment. The original idea is enlivened by a number of pleasant jokes, Newell's relaxed direction and, of course, a host of likeable English actors who are unmissable even in supporting roles. Andie MacDowell may not be the belle of my dreams, but the elegant Grant, the excellent Atkinson and the exuberant Simon Callow made up for it. But hand on heart, Curtis can do much, much better... 70% ()

English Richard Curtis just confirmed to me that he is one of the best writers for conversational romances. He can write great jokes, but most of all he can write a story that is not that predictable, is entertaining, and has great acting performances. Mike Newell's direction suits this film beautifully, as it is subtle and precise. ()
