The Second World War is well underway. Young lieutenant Mikhail Kapustin returns to the front from hospital. As his route lies through Moscow, where he was born and grew up, Mikhail decides to come round to his old flat. Now it's occupied by complete strangers. He tries to explain the reason for his sudden appearance to an elderly man, who is suspicious and thinks Mikhail is a German spy. However, his 12-year-old granddaughter Nina believes Mikhail completely and welcomes the soldier like a true lady of the house. For the first time since the war started, the girl feels happy. But Mikhail's leave is nearing its end, and at night he will have to get on a train that will carry him to the front again. (Moscow International Film Festival)
