This adaptation of the popular stage play takes place after the end of World War II, in Okinawa, Japan. The plot concerns Army Capt. Fisby, who has been assigned to introduce the benefits of democracy and trade to a small town. His task proves difficult, for the villagers have deeply rooted traditions that they wish to uphold.
