An emotionally charged story of racial tension and social injustices in the 1940's south, SUDIE AND SIMPSON is a moving account of the relationship between the two title characters, the former a 12 year-old girl (Gilbert) and the latter a gentle black man (Gossett Jr.). Based on the novel by Sara Flanigan Carter, Sudie and Simpson become fast friends when Sudie realizes that he is a kindred soul, and soon the two form a relationship that threatens the white population of their town.
