In Ronald Neame’s Tunes of Glory, the incomparable Alec Guinness plays Jock Sinclair—a whiskey-drinking, up-by-the-bootstraps commanding officer of a peacetime Scottish battalion. For my taste, this is a somewhat tiresome psychological drama set in a military camp. If I were to compare it, for instance, to the famous film The Hill, it would merit a weaker three-star rating. Overall impression: 50%.
