The Long Hot Summer

When I compare this film with the almost 30-year older original, I can’t give more than three stars. The creators added new characters and dramatic plots to the new version, but I can't say I’m impressed. I have nothing against the cast, but Paul Newman, Orson Welles and Joanne Woodward were clearly better than their counterparts. Plus, I was strongly annoyed by some of the original dialogue cropping up here and there, which seemed rather inappropriate or almost absurd when set in the 80s. Not bad overall, but I’m still more inclined towards the original version. (11/19/2020)
