Award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan in his stunning historical epic, Mongol. Based on leading scholarly accounts, Mongol delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. Mongol shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor. English Mongol is a well-cast and visually beautiful epic shot in stunning Kazakh and Chinese locations. Unfortunately, however, its script makes only a bit more sense and is slightly more consistent and engaging than that of Emmerich’s recent 10,000 BC. A pity. ()

English Surprisingly, it has amazing visuals, it's just a shame about the very crappy script. It's not so much that it doesn't stick too closely to historical facts, but rather that it has nothing to offer. Too little plot and the often ridiculous idealization of the main character makes the film stumble pretty bad. But it's quite nice to watch. ()
