It's Ireland, 1924. Harry's favourite son, Patrick, was killed during the civil war. His wife Annie died of a broken heart shortly thereafter. He continues to live with his other son, Gus, in their small house on the edge of the village of Skillet, but he gradually becomes more and more withdrawn. One grey day, he has an absurd idea: why not find himself an enemy? After all, if love seems to have left him with nothing, perhaps hate can give him back some relish for life... After some hard thinking, he settles on George, the most powerful man in the village. He becomes obsessed with how to destroy George... (Zlín Film Festival)

English The story itself isn't particularly compelling or exceptional, but what elevates the film to a three to four-star level is Colm Meaney's performance. His appearance and acting perfectly fit the character of a stubborn patriarchal farmer, easily overshadowing the talented Cillian Murphy. Nature also plays an important role in the film - the raw Irish weather and the atmosphere of the 1920s Irish countryside are vividly captured by the camera. The image of the marketplace with a large waterfall cascading down the cliffs in the background will stay with me for a long time. Overall impression: 65%. ()
