At the estate of Nyiri Balázs, the young and impoverished landowner, the namesday celebration has been going on for the third day. Pólika, known for her beauty and stubbornness, decides to serve a lesson to her spendthrift husband and moves back to her Aunt Zsani in Bodony. As Balázs's courting, nice words and serenades are all in vain, he turns for help to Uncle Lajos, elder brother of Aunt Zsani and a man with whom he is at draggers drawn. The two resolute men have Pólika's songs played day and night in the neighbouring pub, while Aunt Pepi, Zsani's tipsy housekeeper, feeds them well from her lady's pantry and the faithful servants are bringing and taking the news about the devastation of the Nyíri-estate. After a series of scandals, Pólika sends a message to her husband and asks him to abduct her. (official distributor synopsis)
