In October 1966, Deslaw began filming in Spain in collaboration with a cameramen from the local newsreel producer NODO. It was intended to be a feature film about Spain. Some of the scenes were planned in advance to be used for a new visual effects process. The director then devoted himself to the discovery of a new machine at a Swiss laboratory that enabled film to be developed while using a new method called solarisation.
