A vase of tulips is the starting point of Tulips. The filmmaker puts the tulip in another context than the traditional one (spring), by using a bombastic score with the images. This suggests an enormous emotional profundity, which in relation to 'the tulip' produces a comic effect. Tulips is an excellent example of art in the sixties, when many artists were inspired by trivial objects which, put in an unfamiliar context, got a new meaning.
