In West Virginia, Charley "Boomer" Baxter is supervising the placement of mountaintop-removal explosives. As he detonates the TNT, a massive earthquake liquefies the terrain. Within hours, Dr. Amy Lane, a government seismologist, arrives at the epicenter.
