The Romani Holocaust in the Czech lands began with the internment of Romani in concentration camps located in the Nazi-controlled Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and so-called Gypsy camps in Lety and Hodonin. The mass killings were then carried out in the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. The film ... They're Painful Memories recapitulates the events and details of the Romani Holocaust and brings us closer to the reality of this tragedy with the real stories of contemporary witnesses. It is the testimonies of survivors and the historical content present in the film that reveal the problems of Czech's relations with the Romani people up to the present day; for instance, instead of a memorial, a pig farm stands today where the former camp in Lety used to be.
