Downton Abbey (2010)

English I enjoy both the premise and the setting. The series is filmed very professionally. Plus, it features Maggie Smith, whose Violet Crawley makes brutal bon mots about everything, and Michelle Dockery, who has been a favorite of mine since her role as Susan in Hogfather. With such a constellation, it's virtually impossible for me to be dissatisfied. Of course, I realize that the plot is extremely idealized. So what? Since I’m generally cynical about what life and film has to offer, I was almost taken aback by how good I felt watching this series. ()

Season 6 (2015) (S06)

English Now that the series is over, I can’t help thinking that many filmmakers would give their left arm to be able to make a first season half as good as this show’s first season. Not to mention the seasons that followed. Anyway, it’s the end of a long series that was about exactly the things I enjoy most about Britain. I will definitely miss it and I sure wouldn’t mind if a couple more seasons were made. ()

Episode 1 (2015) (S06E01)

English It cannot be expected that I would rate any episode of this series with weak marks because it is filmed absolutely professionally, taking place in England and dealing with people's relationships "above stairs" and "below stairs," which is a topic that has always interested me. If it weren't for the overly sweet ending, I would probably add that last star as well. ()

Episode 2 (2015) (S06E02)

English This time, there was no over-sweetened ending, so I have no reason to subtract a star. Not everyone may relate to the theme of the series, but the high level of professionalism cannot be overlooked. On the other hand, I understand that fans of Ordinace or Sousedů may not get caught up in this saga. ()

Episode 3 (2015) (S06E03)

English I am starting to realize that it is difficult for me to write comments on matters that I have no objections to. I simply like this series from the beginning, even though there are occasional minor issues with it. However, when I compare it to our domestic productions... I would like to live long enough to see a Czech series that will be at least half as good as this one for six seasons, but I simply won't live that long. ()

Episode 6 (2015) (S06E06)

English I was annoyingly and stereotypically satisfied again. Well, well, what can you do when the series is so well done. I think I would get used to that discomfort if I owned such a big house that I wouldn't even have time to notice which room has which furniture and decorations. Moreover, it's quite demanding when you only have forty years for such observations. ()

Episode 8 (2015) (S06E08)

English The eighth episode was packed with events and had a gloomier atmosphere than the other parts. Once again, I must appreciate the development not only of the plot but especially of the characters that create this plot. I had a great time in the revelation of Cassandra Jones' identity. Complete satisfaction. ()

Christmas Special (2015) (S06E09)

English The final double episode was mostly positive, however, I didn't feel that the British overwhelmed me with a ton of pathos, which would certainly happen if it were an American series. So I would say it was a dignified conclusion. ()
