A contemporary take on the classic Arthur Conan Doyle stories, Sherlock is a thrilling, funny, fast-paced adventure series set in present-day London. Co-created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Coupling) and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock stars BAFTA-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (Hawking, Amazing Grace) as the new Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman (The Office, Love Actually), as his loyal friend, Doctor John Watson. Rupert Graves plays Inspector Lestrade. The iconic details from Conan Doyle's original books remain - they live at the same address, have the same names and, somewhere out there, Moriarty is waiting for them. And so across three thrilling, scary, action-packed and highly modern-day adventures, Sherlock and John navigate a maze of cryptic clues and lethal killers to get at the truth. Reviews of this series by the user D.Moore (12)

A Study in Pink (2010) (S01E01)

English I unequivocally join the avalanche of five-star reviews that has swept through here. Bringing Holmes and Watson to the present day may have been a risk, but it paid off. The characters' vocabulary has changed a bit, and as for Holmes, the police refer to him as a deviant of the first category instead of as a weirdo... But they're still those old acquaintances. The story is suspenseful from start to finish, full of incredibly dry lines and great dialogue, and apart from the final nerve-wracking confrontation, the taxi chase absolutely blew my mind. ()

The Blind Banker (2010) (S01E02)

English I didn't really like The Blind Banker until the second time, when I became more familiar with it and, in addition to trying to understand the plot, I was able to focus on the relationship between Holmes and Watson, which shifted again. It's especially nice to see how Holmes gets on Watson's nerves, but also constantly impresses him. ()

The Great Game (2010) (S01E03)

English Moriarty's actions will surely remind many of the Joker's escapades from The Dark Knight - a wonderfully intelligent lunatic, this "professor". Holmes and Watson play for time and lives and their brains practically don't breathe for the whole 90 minutes (as well as the audience), a really successful finale puts the crown on everything. ()

A Scandal in Belgravia (2012) (S02E01)

English Making Irena Adler a dominatrix must have taken the same courage as bringing Sherlock Holmes into the twenty-first century. But all praise - once again it worked and an impressive show of sparkling intrigue was created. The story of this episode is also beautifully complex and intertwined (I'm really looking forward to watching it a second time) and there's a lot more humor compared to the finale of the first series. When everything fell into place in the end, it was pure joy. ()

The Hounds of Baskerville (2012) (S02E02)

English A very interesting adaptation of the original work, which everyone knows, but it was spoiled a bit by two things that were a bit too convoluted for my taste - the coincidence with the luminous rabbit and P.S.I.S.K.O.... Really far-fetched. Otherwise, it's a good game in all aspects with a completely different atmosphere than the previous episodes. ()

The Reichenbach Fall (2012) (S02E03)

English Thrilling, what else can I say? What I enjoyed the most was the very dramatic and emotional ending, which managed to get on my nerves even though I am a fan of Conan Doyle and I already knew what would (and also wouldn’t) happen. ()

The Empty Hearse (2014) (S03E01)

English It's more about Sherlock and John, their tiptoeing and how things actually went down last time, than it is about a new case, which actually almost ends up unsolved, which is a bit of a shame. The ending promises a better show next time, so I will believe it. ()

The Sign of Three (2014) (S03E02)

English Unfortunately, the weakest episode of Sherlock so far. I can hardly believe how boring, at times annoying, it was. What's more, in the end, the creators tried to convince me how they had thought everything through, but I still couldn't get rid of the taste of the sitcom wedding party, which made it so that the episode only got to the case after half an hour (!)... Then I didn't enjoy it anyway, because the script kept crushing it with that wedding and an absolutely awful bachelor party. The gentlemen did not deserve this. ()

His Last Vow (2014) (S03E03)

English The villain is great. Disgusting, slimy, cunning. He could have been a worthy opponent for Sherlock, if the creators wanted him to be. But they didn't. It’s like they gave up on having any tension and replaced it with humor that is far from always effective, exchanging Sherlock's believable deductions for absolutely unbelievable thought processes (if in the last episode of the second season you found his search for an abandoned chocolate factory to be ridiculous, this time you will be force to take a sedative), they mix various supporting characters into the story, which are either as ingenious as Sherlock or as stupid as Lestrade, the plot is overly complicated in order to hide its shortcomings... And in the middle of it all, Watson stumbles around helplessly, which you can easily empathize with. And the final solution? I was surprised, but not in the way I would have liked. ()

The Six Thatchers (2017) (S04E01)

English In the previous season, the creators of Sherlock made me believe that I didn't trust them at all now in what they do, not even the death of one of the main characters. And if that death was to be the best thing that happened in this episode, I'm sorry to say that it didn't work out. The thing is that it started so well, with the echoes of the first season, it looked like a decent investigation, but then everything got complicated, overly complicated and in the end the twist put a halt to everything. Neither Sherlock nor Watson had the best scene, but rather their borrowed dog. ()

The Lying Detective (2017) (S04E02)

English Toby Jones is a great villain, but this episode doesn't deserve him. And if you don't find yourself shaking your head at the plan to save John or the revelation of who's who, there's probably nothing wrong with your life, and you can go and teach Zen masters about peace. Yes, I liked Sherlock's drug scenes, and the part with a devastated detective catching up with his own brain, but it seemed like a completely different series. I'm sorry to say I'm looking forward to the last episode of Sherlock mainly because it will be the last. ()

The Final Problem (2017) (S04E03)

English It was actually quite decent... Until it became Saw and I started wishing it would be over before it got worse. Sherlock has changed remarkably in four seasons. I don't just mean the central character, who has turned from an eccentric, brilliantly thinking antisocial to a an absolute psychopath dangerous to himself, to those close and far from him - by that I mean the whole series, which went from something unexpectedly amazing to something unexpectedly unsuccessful. I'm not angry, but I'm very disappointed. However, I will be happy to return to the first two seasons. They were good, the episodes built on each other and did not refute each other. ()
