The Rat-Catcher

(unofficial title)
  • Poland Szczurołap

Plots(1)

The film follows a rat catcher in Poland doing his job, which he is very good at. The man takes his profession very seriously and wonders what is the best way to destroy rats. A strong dose of poison will bring an immediate effect and will kill three-quarters of the population, but the rest is warned and escapes. And how should one solve the problem of rats who have eaten a little bit of the poison, but have not died? They will never be hoaxed into any form of chemical poisoning again? What is more, the rat-catcher believes, older rats will hand down this experience to their offspring. Weighing the pros and cons the man concludes that "it is better to poison them slowly, with small doses, consistently and in the long run". (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
