The Florestine Collection

FilmDRESS sews together motifs created by experimental animator Helen Hill and seamstress Florestine Kinchen. Helen tells the story of a collection of Florestine’s floral dresses; after she is killed, the film is completed by her husband. The film, which bears physical marks of damage (the film stock was damaged at the filmmakers’ home in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina) becomes something like a diary of handicraft.
