The Newsroom takes a behind-the-scenes look at a high-rated cable-news program at the fictional ACN Network, focusing on the on- and off-camera lives of its acerbic anchor, new executive producer, their newsroom staff and their news-division boss. Overcoming a tumultuous first day together – climaxing in a newsflash that a BP oil rig has just exploded in the Gulf of Mexico – the team sets out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to "do the news well" in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements. The Newsroom (2012)
Daniels's apt monologue about America at the very beginning of the first part thrilled me, but things go downhill from there. While I appreciate that the show doesn't pander to the average viewer, that Jeff Daniels is chillingly accurate and charismatic in front of the camera when presenting the fresh news, but due to the barrage of way too banal dialogues and the overplayed emotions of most of character, the show failed to find a place in my heart.
